Sustainability as standard

At Boss Design we are transparent about sustainability. Like our customers, fighting the climate crisis is an imperative which is transforming our business. From our internal operations through to the end-to-end environmental impact of our products, we strive for the highest levels of certification globally and in our industry.

Environmental product declarations

Every piece of Boss Design furniture comes with an environmental and specification data sheet stating its VOC certification, recycled and recyclable content and carbon footprint. In addition, we are working towards every product being independently certified by Declare resulting in an environmental product declaration (EPD) including Living Building Challenge 4.0 compliance.

We hold full ISO 14001 accreditation and take a proactive approach, continually enhancing our customers’ sustainable procurement processes and policies. We were awarded with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.

Our approach to environmental management is best illustrated via a practical case study. The approach taken for our ‘Cega’ product as an example evaluates methods of manufacture and compares the environmental impacts of alternative methods of manufacture. We formed a product team to consider, evaluate and refine the ecological impact of our product development process. Our approach culminated in an award for the ‘Furniture Manufacturers Association’.

Every product manufactured by Boss Design contains some recycled material content and is supplied with a product data sheet that shows the breakdown of materials used in its manufacture. Every year we are increasing the amount of recycled material used in our products and will continue to push the mechanical and commercial framework in which our industry operates.

Quality, Environment, Safety and Health

We apply a Quality, Environment, Safety and Health (QUENSH) management system across our business for a safer, cleaner, healthier environment. This encompasses BS EN ISO 9001, BS EN ISO 14001, BS EN ISO 45001 and Forest Stewardship Council® Chain of Custody certification.

Volatile Organic Compounds

At Boss Design we are working to reduce the use of VOCs in our products, while maintaining their safety and durability. All our products are independently checked by Intertek and have achieved gold accreditation.

BIFMA/ANSI compliant

All Boss Design products are BIFMA compliant under the BIFMA/ANSI e3-2011 Furniture Sustainability Standard sections 7.6.1 and 7.6.2.

Forest Stewardship Council® certification

The vast majority of the timbers we use are ethically and supporting sustainable forestry and FSC® certified.
